Geoffrey stirs on the couch where he was dozing, twitching at the faint sound of Jamie's voice. For a second, he wonders if he's imagining it. It's raining outside, still, and has been for a while, and Jamie is gone, still, and has been for a while, so Geoffrey raises himself slowly and stretches, letting his lips curve into a not-quite-smile at the lovely stretch and pop of cramped muscle and bone. The futon is entirely too small to nap on, but he can never resist, especially not when he lays down with the intention of doing a bit of light reading.

He wanders over to the window, bare feet tickled against the carpet in the room. He sees Jamie trudging his way to the door, sopping wet no doubt, and likely halfway to sickness depending on how long Geoffrey had been asleep and how keen Jamie had been to study the rain as it fell.

Up the stairs. He can't get rid of all this water weighing him down - who knew the sky had so much water in it? It's ridiculous, thinks Jamie, and is off on a spiral of precipitation and relative humidity before he can stop his overactive thoughts, musing all the way to wild storms at sea. Surely they're like this.

At the door of their flat, he looks back down a path of water marking where he's been. He thinks he's never been so wet, even underwater. He wishes he'd worn his swimming trunks under his clothes, if only it wasn't for the cold. He decides he's just glad to be home, and shakes like a dog before letting himself in. Reaching for the doorknob, he hears the microwave timer go off, and enters to the spreading scent of hot cocoa.

He follows it to Geoffrey, and is barely able to stop himself throwing his arms around the other in a grateful, wretchedly wet hug. Jamie tries to wipe his hand on his trousers (though all that he accomplishes is futher dripping onto the floor), then touches Geoffrey's sticking-up hair lightly, and tugs at the asymmetric single shoved-up sleeve. "I woke you."

Geoffrey turns around when he hears Jamie squishing his way into the room, soaked to the bone. A hint of a grin clings to his mouth, but fades shortly after.

He looks at the puddle Jamie is making on the floor, watches a lonesome drop of rainwater catch on the cuff of his pants and drizzle downward. "I needed to wake up, anyway. Like waking before you get in - sometimes you're so bloody quiet, I don't even know you're here."

Geoffrey leans over and brushes his lips against Jamie's temple, his nose getting wet from Jamie's hair. The cold dampness makes him scrunch his face up, and he darts out his tongue to lick at his own wet nose, which doesn't really do anything except maybe remind him that rainwater has no real taste to it. He scrubs his palm over his face and laughs. "You should go change," He turns back to the microwave and opens the door, carefully taking hold of two mugs. "Don't worry. I won't drink all of your cocoa."

It makes sense, Jamie tells himself as he spreads the wet mess that trails him down the hall to his room; he should let the cocoa cool, anyhow, to keep himself from burning his mouth. It's hard to wait then you're all-the-way cold and there's something in front of you that could warm you so easily.

And that's what it feels like to see Geoffrey just now, too. Jamie doesn't feel quite right disturbing the layer of warmth wrapping Geoff with the soggy hug he had been considering giving him.

He wants a shower, failing that, but doesn't want to wait. Knows even lukewarm water will scald with his skin so chilled. In the end he simply strips down and towels off, dressing again in dry clothes and hanging his wet ones in the W.C. uncertainly. He grabs his Jolly Roger and wraps it about his own shoulders, then pads back out to see if he can't get some of Geoffrey's warm.

Geoffrey stifles a yawn behind his hand and dips his index finger into one of the mugs, testing it's temperature. "Perfect," He announces, to himself, and takes them both by the sturdy handles. Not too hot, not too cold, just perfect, for my Goldilocks, he twitters to himself, feeling fuzzy-minded and heated from the inside out.

That heat rushes to his cheeks and pinkens the skin just below his throat (a natural response, one he can't control, and he likes it that way) when Jamie reappears. "Shall we take these into the den?" Geoffrey says, handing Jamie one of the mugs to warm his white-tipped fingers. He huddles close to Jamie, takes the mug from Jamie without thinking, so that Jamie can get comfortable without danger of sloshing.

He reminds himself of his mum sometimes, these days, but Jamie's just so... so there, and Geoffrey worries so much of the time, and it's easy to want to take care of Jamie.
